If you happen across any of my Motion Pictures From a Writer’s Perspective posts and are expecting a movie review, you will not find it here. There are a great many blogs out there that do cater to reviews, and I recommend http://geekgirlsmoviereviews.wordpress.com/. Instead, what you will find in my blog are short dissertations on the successes (or failures, as it were) of motion pictures as stories. I’m not going to dissect the actual screenplay (although I suppose I could do that too) but comment on the story in its finished product as a visual and audible experience.
I will be referring to plot and theme and character development and all that crap, so consider this your spoiler alert.
If you are interested in screenwriting or really any kind of fiction, I strongly suggest you read Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting by Robert McKee. Want to see the man, his book, and his screenwriting seminar in action on film, watch Adaptation. Otherwise check out his site at http://mckeestory.com/.
